The Association of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder, on Tuesday, October 11, took a new media dimension in her sensitization campaigns, as the Coordinator and some members of the Association were at the New Digital Broadcast Studio of Unizik 94.1FM to kick off her radio program titled DARING EXPOSE, which is being sponsored by Mr Peter Obi.
The phone in program, which according to Aisha Edward, the coordinator of the association, is another media leaf to her spreading branches of ongoing sensitization campaigns against the scourge of the sickle cell disorder.
Speaking during the live broadcast, Aisha hinted the purpose of APLSCD, as an association built on love and care, with the aim of providing welfare and other medical and empowerment packages for persons living with sickle cell disorder. She highlighted that it became necessary for those who feel the pain to fight for themselves after they have received tons of neglects and betrayals from some quarters of the society.
The anchor of the program, Mr Echo, opened windows of questions to the coordinator of the Association, as regarding the Modus operandi of the association. In her replies, Aisha revealed that the association is hinged on equality and treats everyone as equal, and this equality necessitated the decision of the Association to rest her managerial counsel and responsibilities on her Chaplains and members of the board of trustees, as opposed to the usual appointment of executives among the members. She said that the association has no executives among her members so as to maintain the equality status among members.
Aisha, further appreciated the benevolent gesture of Mr Peter Obi who has consistently remained the APLSCD “DREAM COME TRUE ” sponsored the media broadcast even without prior knowledge of the Association. She described the former Anambra State Governor as a man who has not only demonstrated a unique practical Christianity through his numerous Charity to our kind but has also shared in the pain and the Challenging agonies of persons living with sickle cell disorder, Edward posited that Obi still remains a valuable benefactor of APLSCD worthy of their prayers and appreciation especially with the recent media sponsorship which is very dear to her Sensitization and advocacy campaign.
The coordinator, also acknowledged the gallantry of Prof. Stella Okunna, the Head of Department Mass Communication Unizik, who out of her love in salvaging the youths through Education and goodwill approved her initiative of reaching out to the youths at their prime age of decision and rallied both financial and moral support that made the radio program a success.
However, the Association thanked the Speaker and the Honourable members of Anambra State House of Assembly for their ebullient strides in giving security and succour to persons living with sickle cell disorder through the Sickle Cell Bill that has now scaled through second reading on the floor of the house. The coordinator, also appreciated his Excellency, Governor Willie Obiano for making history in this cause which has Set the PACE in his administration, as she said that it takes only a man with a good heart to pave way for the good of others.
The program, DARING EXPOSE, from the Association of Persons Living with Sickle Cell Disorder comes live on Unizik 94.1FM every Tuesdays from 12:15pm, and features professionals and survivors, as each share stories and experiences of the sickle cell disorder, ways to avoid and manage the scourge.
